Dr Gilder is regularly consulted internationally on human security (including in the CIMIC context), peacekeeping, the protection of civilians and related topics.
As a leading expert on human security in military operations, he has worked as a Consultant/Contractor at NATO HQ Supreme Allied Commander Transformation and NATO HQ Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, is a member of NATO's Research Task Group on Human Security and Military Operations and has acted as a Subject Matter Expert for Navy Command Headquarters, Royal Navy. He has engaged with a wide variety of NATO and UK defence organisations to provide input on the development of human security doctrine and policy.
He has also been part of a Critical Group on UK Defence invited by the Ministry of Defence to contribute to shaping the next Defence Command Paper, delivered executive education to British Army Legal Services on Operational and International Law, provided expert advice on stabilization to FCDO-funded research services, and given evidence to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs on UK involvement in peacekeeping.
Beyond the UK he has been engaged as an Expert by the European Commission, taken part in expert-level workshops, committees, and reviewed publications for think tanks, such as the International Peace Institute (IPI) (USA) and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) (Sweden), advised on research capacity-building for institutes in India and Somaliland, and has co-authored policy research for the Public Interest Litigation Project of the Nederlands Juristen Comité voor de Mensenrechten (Netherlands).
